Charlene T. Cranmer
Charlene T. Cranmer hails from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where her love of music
began at an early age with her first piano teacher—her mother. Throughout elementary
and high school, she participated in band and jazz band, performing on flute and alto
saxophone.
While studying piano at the Philadelphia College of Bible, Charlene attended the
historic Tenth Presbyterian Church in Center City Philadelphia, where she first heard
renowned organist and composer Robert Elmore. Inspired by Elmore’s extraordinary
musicianship, she changed her focus from piano to organ performance. Charlene holds
a Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from the University of the Arts, a Master
of Music in Choral Conducting from Temple University, and a Master of Arts in
Teaching from The College of New Jersey.
While pursuing her undergraduate and graduate degrees, Charlene received
accompanying scholarships to work with vocal and instrumental students. Most
notably, she served as an accompanist in the University of the Arts studio of New York
City Opera baritone Richard Torigi. Throughout her college years, she also worked as
a choir director and organist and served as keyboard accompanist for the Bomberger
Chamber Orchestra in suburban Philadelphia.
Charlene’s teaching career spanned all levels, from kindergarten through junior
college. Her final teaching position before retirement was at Bridgeton Senior High
School in Bridgeton, New Jersey, where she taught choral music, music theory, music
appreciation, and piano.
Since moving to Florida in 2017, Charlene has served as a choir director and organist
at churches in Leesburg, Ocala, and Orlando. She is currently Music
Director/Organist-Choir Director at St. George Episcopal Church in The Villages. She
is also active in the American Guild of Organists and has served as both Dean and
Sub-Dean of the Southwest Jersey and Central Florida Chapters of the AGO.
Charlene and her husband, Steve, are avid Trekkies and enjoy science-fiction
television. They are the parents of three adult children and grandparents of seven
grandchildren. Together, Charlene and Steve enjoy golf, gardening, and exploring the
many restaurants in The Villages.
Charlene is thrilled with the opportunity to serve as accompanist for The Village
Voices and to work with Dr. Will Kesling and his group of amazing singers.
